LAPLATA GOLF CLUB
    This course is a good example of a respectable golf course in a rural area.  It includes a snack bar, clubhouse,  pro shop and putting green.  The pro shop is well stocked and includes club repair and regripping.
    Most of the original course runs through big timber in the Long Branch creek bottom and has good evelation changes throughout.  Water comes into play in five of those nine holes.  The new nine holes are southeast of the original.  They are shorter and tighter with more new trees.
    Slope rating is 122 for blue tees and 117 for white tees for 18 holes.  Greens fees are $9 for 9 holes, $13 for 18 holes, and $17 for all day on weekdays.  On weekends and holidays, the fees are $12 for nine holes, $16 for 18, and $20 all day.  Cart rental is $4.50 for every 9 holes.

SULLIVAN COUNTY COUNTRY CLUB
    Milan's got one of the toughest 9-hole courses in North Missouri, it is full of hills, water, wooded ares, and doglegs.  It includes 3 picturesque bridges, several flower gardens, watered fairways and a practice area for long irons, chiping and putting.  7 of the 9 holes are over water or inlet streams.  It has a slope rating of 119.
    Many improvements have occured and are planned.  In 1992, additional land was obtained a new, longer course was designed with grass greens.  It was designed with the fairways edging the lakes for beauty and toughness.  Concrete cart paths,  a new bridge to connect #s 4 and 5, and a swampy area in front of the #5 tee box were built.
    Greens fees at the course are $10 on weekdays and $12 for weekends and holidays.  Cart rental is $1 per hole.  This course is semi private.

LANCASTER COUNTRY CLUB
    This fairly new golf course just south of the Iowa/Missouri border is already drawing golfers from a wide area.   This course offers scenic views from elevated greens and tees, with irrigated greens, tees and fairways.  Lancaster Lake comes into play on two of the nine holes, #s 7 and 8.  #7, which is par-5 plays 540 yards more than listed on the card because the third shot is over an arm of the lake, making it the toughest hole as rated on the course.
    The cost for 18 holes is $10 on weekdays and $12 on weekends and holidays, tee times not required.  Cart rental for 9 holes is $9 and 18 holes is $18, and $20 for unlimited rental on Wednesdays.  There is a $5 trail fee if you bring your own cart.  This course accepts the American Lung Association 2000 Golf Privilege Card.

SHELBINA LAKE SIDE GOLF COURSE
    Shelbina's course has gone through many improvements in recent years, fairway irrigation and landscaping.  It includes a new clubhouse, a pro shop with a full line of golf equipment and accessories, and a snack bar.
    The Mens league meets on Tuesday evenings; Women's league on Tuesday mornings; Seniors league on Thursday evenings; and Couple's league on Saturday nights.
    During summer and early fall, the course feaurse a Wednesday Special rate, where golfers pay $5 greens fees andplay all day.  This course accepts the American Lung Association 2000 Golf Privilege card.

MOSSWOOD COUNTRY CLUB
    This course is located in the heart of Mark Twain Country, and is minutes from Mark Twain Lake, Clarence Cannon Dam and historic Hannibal.  It is a challinging course with irrigated Bentgrass greens and Bluegrass fairways.  It has a 300-yard driving range, a 6,800 practice putting geen, a pro shop and a snack bar.
    The fees are same on weekdays and weekends: $12 for nine holes and $18 for 18 holes.  Cart rental is $10 for 9 holes and $18 for 18.  Memberships are available, asw well as cart shed rental.  This course accepts the American Lung Association 2000 Golf Privilege Card.

TWIN LAKES OF KAHOKA
    This course is for those of you who enjoy the challenge of sand and water.  It has 32 sand bunkers, 3 lakes, a creek and tough doglegs.  Water comes into play on 3 of the holes.  This course has a spacious clubhouse with a pro shop and a snack bar.  It also has a large driving range and putting green and cart rental.  It also has concrete cart paths.
    The greens fees are $12.50 for nine holes, $20 for 18 holes, or $25 for unlimited play, these rates don't change and do include cart rental.

TIMBER LAKES GOLF CLUB
    This relatively new course is has already gotten the attention of area golfers.  It features Pennlinks, Bentgrass geens, Bluegrass tee boxes and fairways, all irrigated.  This course has a mixture of hills and water and gentle slopes.  The course has a total 17 sand sand traps and plenty of mature timber lining the fairways, which have numerous mounds to challenge your ability to hit from uneven lies.  It also has a clubhouse with a ful-service snack bar, fully stocked pro shop and cart/club rental.
    The rates at this course are $13 on weekdays and $15 on weekends.  The Cart rental for 18 holes is $16, pull cart available for $3.  There is a $6 trail fee for those of you with your own carts.  This course accepts the American Lung Association 2000 Golf Privilege Card, as well as VISA, Mastercard and Discover. It is recommended that you call ahead for weekend tee times during the season.

MOBERLY COUNTRY CLUB
    The front 9 holes at this club are alot different than the back, they have rolling terrain and treelined fairways.  This course hasa clubhouse with a dounstairs fully stocked pro shop with one of the area's largest selections of name brand merchandise.  It also has a putting green.  Golf lessons with Doty are available by appointent.
    This club is open to non-members, but for just $80, the entire family can enjoy unlmited play and cart usage for a month.  It is open to non members for $26 during the week and $28 on weekends.  There is also a "Foursome Special" rate.  No outside play is alowed on Wednesdays and golfers are encouraged to call ahead for tee times.

SALISBURY MUNICIPAL GOLF COURSE
    This course is one of the most unique nine-hole courses in mid-Missouri.  It has a country setting with well-maintained bluegrass fairways and bentgrass green, making it a paradise for both nature lovers and golfers.  It is bordered by a 26-acre lake and mature oak forests, and features an abundance of wildlife.  It features a clubhouse, pro shop, dining room, driving range, and practice range.
    The signature hole of this course is #5, a 385-yard, par-4 with a severe dogleg to the left.  It gives long hitters an option of cutting the tee-to-green distance by flying over mature oaks and a small stream.
    Tee times at this course are not required.  Weekday rates are $8 for 9 holes, $10 for 18, or $15 for all day.  Weekend/holiday rates are $10 for 9 holes and $15 for 18.  Cart rates are $10 for 9 holes and $16 for 18.  For those who bring their own carts, the trail fee is $2. This course accepts the American Lung Association 2000 Golf Privilege Card.

MARK TWAIN COUNTRY CLUB
    This course has undergon man renovations recently, including cart sheds, grass greens, 3 new holes, and 2 miles of waterlines.  This semi-private course also has a clubhouse, small pro shop and practice putting green.  Nearly all this course has concrete cart paths and cart rental is available.
    The weekday fees are $11 for 9 holes and $13 all day.  On Fridays, Sundays, and Saturdays and holidays, it is $11 for 9 holes and $16 for 18.  Women's league is on Tuesday nights and men's league is Thursday nights.  Several types of memberships are available.  There is also a Barnett Open men's club championship tournament that takes place each fall.  This course accepts the American Lung Association 2000 Privilege Card.

NORWOODS GOLF CLUB
    This course is playable for all levels, it is challenging for low handycappers, but easy enough for the less skilled golfers to enjoy.  Recent improvements include complete paving of entrance road, more cart paths, and new back tees.  The new tees require players to stay off the tee and approach the greens from the low side of the hole for a chance of higher scoring.  There is also a driving range, putting green and club house, which includes a fully stocked golf shop and concessions.
    Weekday fees are $9 for 9 holes and $13 for 18.  Weekend/holiday fees are $10 for 9 holes and $15 for 18.  Cart rental for 9 holes is $6 and $10 for 18 holes.
    They host a Men's Day at 9 a.m. on Wednesdays and Ladies' Day at the same time on Thursdays.
    This course accepts the American Lung Association 2000 Golf Privilege Card.

VANDALIA COUNTRY CLUB
    Although it is a country club, Vandalia's course has been opened to non-members in recent years.  So if you'd like to play on a course that was for some time not open to the public, this is one for you.
    It features a pro shop with supplies and a snack bar, along with putting green and rental carts.  The snack bar offers a large variety of food, along with plans to have hamburgers available on sundays.  For club members, there isa newly renovated swimming pool.
    The course is a long one with water on several holes and plenty of hazards, so select your clubs wisely.  Hole #7 is the most unique hole on the course, at par-3, 233 yards, an errant tee shot may end up in the water, making it the toughest hole as rated.  Water is also a big factor on #8, a par-4 291 yard hole with a dogleg right.
    The costs are $8 for 9 holes and $12 for 18 from Monday to Thursday, and $10 for 9 and $15 for 18 for Friday through Sunday and holidays.  Cart rental is $10 for 9 holes or $17 for 18.  On non-holiday Mondays, you can play all day for $25, cart included.  There is also a Tuesday Nite Scramble each week.

ARTHUR HILLS GOLF CLUB
    Arthur Hills was named after J.B. Arthur, founder of Mexico Refractories Co.  It has now doubled its original size and many of the new holes include water.  It now has automatic sprinkling for greens, irrigation for driving range and landing areas; benches; fairway markers; renovation of the clubhouse; and the completion of concrete cart paths along the entire course.  The course fees are $12 on weekdays and $16 ond weekends for 9-18 holes.  The course also is available for rent for a tournament or other special event.

TIMBER RIDGE GOLF COURSE
    The layout of Timber Ridge offers many challenges, with ponds on five different holes including the final one.  Hole #9 requires that the golfer plays a big drive off the tee or lay up with an iron and hit it over on the second shot.  The toughest is actually #5, due to the need to dog leg off the tee with trees to both the left and right of the fairway.
    Timber ridge is open to public.  Greens fees are $12 for 9 holes and $15 for 18.  Cart rentals are available at the club house, as are golf equipment and refreshments.
    League play is Tuesday at 6 p.m. for women and Thursday at 6 p.m. for men, all golfers are invited to attend.  On Sunday nights there is Twilight golf, where couples join together for a tournament-style round of golf then eat steak at the club house.
