This buck was killed by Leon Shaw of Gorin. Took this picture at Memphis check station. Maybe this buck will score 200
in. |

Took this buck in Schuyler
County the weekend before the gun season. Took him the first afternoon
of a five day bowhunt. Had never set foot on the farm before that
day, but scouted it using aerial photos and topo maps. When I got
there early in the morning, I placed a popup blind at the intersection
of three woodlines I found on a map and immediately saw some turkeys.
Then I went to another area I had circled on the map. A few minutes
on the ground was all it took to prove to me it was a good spot. Hung
the stand at 2 pm and at 4:15 this big boy comes out of a brushy draw
at the bottom of a partially picked corn field. Grunted him right
under my tree. Waited a few minutes for him to step into the clear
and put an arrow through him at 10 yards. Typical 12 point with a
couple extra scorable points. Would have been a 14 pointer if not
for the broken brow tine. |

Amy Bowling and her 8 point from the 2003 firearms season. Behind her is her mother Judy. Last year they both took small bucks on day 2 of the season. This year it was bigger or bust. Amy connected on the second Saturday at 8:00AM at 25 yards with her handloaded 125 grain 308. The buck went about 30 inches which is how far she estimated his chin was from the ground when the bullet struck. This is her
third deer, in three years, all clean boiler room shots, none got out
of site. |
