This city maintained lake is a nice fish for everyone. Practically the entire lake is accessible from shore and it also has a boat ramp. Attached to the park area is a golf course. Many campers bring their RVs, golf carts and fishing poles. The lake has a full bait shop open daily from 7:00 am until 7:00 pm. Campers also have access to a shower within the bait shop. The area has both primitive and electric campsites. Pavilions are plentiful as well as playgrounds complete with jungle gyms and swing sets. There is also an outdoor theatre for town productions and performances. The lake is 34 acres and motors under 10 hp are allowed. Gizzard shad are abundant and seems to be the mainstay for all species. The bait shop reports that channel cat are the lake favorite but great numbers of bass exist. Crappie fishing is fair and bluegill are scattered. The lower end of the lake seems for me to hold the best fishing. If you are a jig fisherman you will love the look of this part of the lake. Lots of flooded bushes exist with quality water underneath. Chunk rock seems to be present throughout the lake as well. I also saw many big catfish rolling around the dam. This lake really promotes itself well. It is total family atmosphere. Campsites are located in a wide variety of places. Whether you like sharing your camping expedition with others or prefer finding a secluded spot “away from it all” you will find it at Shelbina Lake.
