BIGGEST EVENT IN ARCHERY
Do
you remember that feeling of sitting around a blazing campfire at night and
enjoying the
friendship, brotherhood and laughter? Do you remember the feeling you get and
the smile that comes across you face when you and your closest hunting buddy’s
share the tall tales, back at camp after the sun has set on the horizon? Do
you remember the feeling you get when joking among your close friends about
the arrow that you stuck in the tree right next to where the deer
Well
if you were not at the 2nd Annual Andy Griggs Fan Fair Celebrity Archery
Tournament that took place in Nashville, Tennessee on June 5th of 2003
that is what you missed. What you also missed was the BIGGEST and most
INFLUENTIAL event in Archery to date.
What
this event does is show the thousands on hand, from young to old, the experienced
archer to the person who has never even thought about picking up the bow,
the modern equipment used today. The concentration and skill it takes and
how from total chaos around you, comes down to you, the arrow and the target.
It also shows that archery even though an individual sport, can be enjoyed
by all, even if they are not shooting. But the main thing that this event
does is showing how hunters are the true sportsmen, conservation and caretakers
of the wildlife and land around us all today.
THE MAN BEHIND THE MUSIC
As
Fan Fair representatives ask country music artist Andy Griggs if he would
consider hosting a golf tournament last year, he said no but would be willing
to host an archery tournament and with every intention on having it again
in 2003. With the crowd tripling in size and more celebrities on hand.
This event will be a tradition to Archery as the steel guitar and fiddle
are to country music. Both hunting and country music are an American heritage
and is strong in Andy Griggs.
This
was the third time to talk with Andy in a year and no words on paper and
no pictures can describe his true feelings for country music, hunting,
fishing and his love for god, family and friends. Only one type of experience
can come close to show the depth of feeling this leader in Country Music
and Hunting has.
Only
select and privilege few know this experience and feeling. If you ever
sat in a stand alone with your thoughts. With the red sun setting on the
horizon and the noise of the woods turns it silence with a bow in your
hand as the leaves are crunching from behind you and getting closer as
the sun is setting.Or if you have
ever heard on a quite night the sound of a lone Blue Tick Hound that has
just treed a raccoon for you in the middle of no where and in the middle
of a pitch-black night. Then you can start to understand Andy Griggs, the
man, hunter and the inspiration behind his music.
THE TOURNAMENT
Again
this year the Master of ceremonies for this event was country music artist,
and host of Bushnell’s Secret of the Hunt - Dave Watson who has great respect
by the hunting community and country music artists worldwide. Dave Watson
did a great job telling the hundreds of fans on hand watching, how the
archery shoot-out was to take place, and how this compared to hunting,
and some of the great benefits of archery and hunting and how it is the
only true American heritage.
With
the pull of this Monroe, Louisiana native bowstring, and with the release
of his first arrow the 2nd Annual Andy Griggs Fan Fair Celebrity
Archery Tournament was underway.
Also
Aaron Tippin who is an avid bow hunter had planned on shooting but, because
of a shoulder injury, instead help Andy Griggs with a few tips on shooting.
But
to show you how much influence hunting has on country music, and how deep
the roots actually go into country music artist lives. I have to show you
last year list of celebrity’s that shot. Andy Griggs took first place followed
by Tracy Byrd, Neil Thrasher, Brad Paisley, Gary Levox, Rusty Tabor, Kris
Marcy, Blake Shelton, Joshua Ragsdale and Darryl Worley.
FUTURE GENERATIONS
All
the of country music artists and bow hunters listed have a mutual desire
toensure that archery, bow hunting,
hunting and the ideals of wildlife conservation, ethics and sportsmanship
will survive, expand and flourish to be shared, enjoyed and passed onto
future generations to come.
Which
was more prevalent as all took time and made it a point to sign autographs
for the young boys and girls that watched the archery shoot-out. All of
the country music artists on hand put on a great archery exhibition for
thousands of fans on hand and should gain the respect and support of every
hunter and sportsmen.
Whenever
a celebrity that is in the spot light shows and tells the world, that he
is a hunter, that celebrity is making this American heritage that much
stronger and each celebrity on hand earned my respect in doing so.
That
split second right before the releasing of each arrow made me very proud
to be able to witness that hunting has some great ambassadors for a long
time to come. I also have no doubt that the BIGGEST archery event of the
year will again only be bigger next year. So before June of 2004 comes
around. Keep a lookout for when the 3rd Annual Andy Griggs Fan Fair Celebrity
Archery Tournament takes place.
Also
a special thanks goes out to the sponsor of the 2nd Annual Andy
Griggs Fan Fair Celebrity Archery Tournament. Mathews Bows, Tennessee Wildlife
Resources Agency, HBI Outdoors, Bushnell, Bass Pro Shops, The Classic Scope,
Delta Targets, and Muzzy Broadhead.
Remember
this biggest oak tree in the woods, roots go the deepest and everything
that stands tall has a solid foundation, archery and hunting has that in
country music and in it’s country music artists.
